Foreword
On July 30, 2025, the "2025 Climate Action Eco-Partner Conference," jointly organized by the China Weather Network under the China Meteorological Administration, and the National Center for Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, was successfully held in Beijing. The energy conservation and emissions reduction case of Nanjing High Speed Gear Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "NGC") was selected as one of the "Path to Carbon Neutrality - 2024 Model Cases for Climate Action" unveiled at the event.
Event Overview
The exemplary cases for climate action were rigorously evaluated by an expert panel led by the China Weather Carbon Neutrality Research Center, and covered nine categories: energy conservation and emissions reduction, technological innovation, climate action public welfare projects, emissions reduction and carbon sink projects, industrial ecosystem development, green finance, renewable energy, climate actions by government and parks, and the circular economy. This initiative aimed to identify innovative carbon reduction practices across various fields.
The 41 shortlisted cases provided highly valuable industry references, and set an excellent example for proactive climate responsibility and offering replicable experiences to address climate change. They will also advance the strategic goals of peak carbon and carbon neutrality.
Case Study
NGC's "Gear-Powered Net Zero: Low-Carbon Transformation Practice Across the Entire Green Manufacturing Chain for New Energy Equipment," selected in the "Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction" category, showcased the exemplary practices of a high-end equipment manufacturer in actively pursuing green manufacturing. It highlighted NGC's comprehensive carbon reduction capabilities achieved through equipment upgrades, key process optimizations, clean energy deployment, and packaging recycling.
Equipment Upgrades: NGC worked in close cooperation with professional institutions to develop an innovative experimental electric energy recovery system platform. Based on electrical feedback frequency conversion technology, this system significantly improved energy efficiency during simulated testing, reducing power demand by over 80%. For lighting systems, NGC adopted a full range of low-power, high-efficiency LED fixtures and intelligent control systems for clustered management, minimizing ineffective lighting spaces and duration.
Key Process Optimizations: NGC fully optimized its heat treatment processes by increasing furnace loading capacity to improve equipment utilization while transitioning to cleaner power sources to reduce carbon emissions. In the precision machining section, the company optimized circulating pump maintenance schedules and operational protocols to improve operational efficiency. In the painting section, it optimized drying temperatures and duration to reduce energy consumption. Through these process optimizations, NGC maintained production stability and product reliability while controlling total carbon emissions throughout the production process, achieving nearly 20% emissions reductions in some sections.
Clean Energy Deployment: Since 2017, the company has been promoting rooftop photovoltaic power generation projects, gradually expanding its installed capacity. By the end of 2024, the total installed capacity had reached 19.83 MW, with an additional 6.66 MW expected in 2025, providing continuous green power for the enterprise's green manufacturing goals.
Packaging Recycling: Since 2017, NGC has implemented a wind turbine main gear packaging recycling mechanism through collaborative partnerships with customers and packaging suppliers to develop a "recovery-inspection-reuse" recycling system. Customers returned packaging materials classified with the "NGC Recycling" label, after which packaging suppliers quickly inspected and refurbished them to improve the recycling rate of packaging materials. By 2023, 100% of packaging materials circulating in the domestic market had been recycled and reused.
As a practitioner of green and low-carbon development, NGC will continue to work with its partners to contribute to climate governance and sustainable development.
