Good news was recently received from NGC’s Rail Transit Division: the company received an order of 1,320 subway gearboxes for a project in Cairo and successfully passed the first client inspection. Cairo, located in northeastern Egypt, is the country’s capital and largest city. It is also the political, economic, cultural, tourism, commercial and transportation center of the entire Middle East. In order to adapt to the local climate conditions, the gearbox features an optimized sandstorm-proof structure based on the B23 Range subway gearbox platform. This product has been widely used in subway lines in Montreal, GPE, and Mumbai L3.

High precision, high reliability, light weight

The B23 Range gearbox was developed and upgraded in strict accordance with customer requirements, based on NGC’s many years of experience in design and production. In order to meet the stringent requirements of high precision, high reliability, low noise and long service life, this gearbox features advanced gear modification technology, significantly improving bearing capacity while also reducing noise. At the same time, nonlinear finite element analysis technology was used to ensure a lightweight design of the gearbox casing and increase power density.

Able to start up and operate in the harsh desert environments of Egypt

During the design of this gearbox, we fully considered the climatic conditions in Cairo, using ultra-tough materials for the gearbox casing and improving the lubricant passage design. This enabled the gearbox to start up and operate at ambient temperatures between -20℃ and 50℃. We also adopted a reinforced sealing structure so that the gearbox can operate in harsh environments, such as sandstorms.

Maintenance-free service life up to 1.2 million kilometers

The gearbox offers such outstanding features as high power density, low noise, high reliability and easy maintenance. The service design life of all key components is 40 years, with a maintenance-free service life of 1.2 million kilometers.
