Nanjing High Speed Gear Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (NGC) unveiled its new-generation 10MW wind turbine gearboxes, as well as pitch and yaw drives at the recently concluded China Wind Power 2025 in Beijing, drawing the interest of many wind turbine manufacturers.
During the event, Chair of NGC Hu Jichun said, "The new-generation 10MW wind turbine gearbox integrates advanced technologies, such as gear parameter optimization, second-generation sliding bearings and enhanced structural design”. He added that the gearbox offers excellent torque density, transmission efficiency, reliability and cost-effectiveness, significantly improving operational performance throughout the product's lifecycle. “Over 8,000 units of this sliding bearing gearbox series have been delivered thus far, with more than 5,000 units operating stably in wind farms,” Hu said.
Since its establishment in 1969, NGC has been committed to the development of gear boxes for wind turbines. Over the past 50 years, the company has evolved from a startup to a global high-tech enterprise. It has witnessed China’s transformation from reliance on imports to global competitiveness in the equipment manufacturing sector.
Hu said NGC’s growth has been driven by a dual strategy of technological innovation and management improvement. “We have developed the customer-centric NGCQS quality management and operations platform to form a closed-loop quality control system covering the entire product lifecycle," he said. The company strengthens quality control across R&D, organizational processes, services, manufacturing and supply chain. Furthermore, a three-dimensional evaluation framework was formulated to ensure process compliance, excellent performance and sustainable growth. These efforts allow the company to establish a “full-process prevention, he added. Liu Zhen, deputy general manager of NGC's Quality Development Department, said, “Our quality team intervenes early in the R&D stage to assess gear strength and evaluate bearing life from the design stage to prevent potential design-related quality issues".
In the early stages of wind energy equipment development, conventional rolling bearings often hindered progress due to their heavy weight, high cost, and maintenance challenges. To overcome this, the company’s team built testing platforms from scratch and verified each parameter hundreds of times. By disassembling old parts and conducting repeated tests, they gradually mastered the core mechanisms behind bearing technologies. Through continuous optimization, the team developed a proprietary sliding bearing solution that not only resolved industry bottlenecks, but also attracted interest from foreign companies.
Innovation is the main driving force behind NGC’s growth. The company established a "3+3+7" innovation platform system that has produced 1,000 patents, including over 150 invention patents. It has also led or been involved in the formulation of nearly 40 international or national standards. The company was further recognized as a National Technological Innovation Demonstration Enterprise and a National Intellectual Property Advantage Enterprise in China.
NGC has evolved from the 1.0 era of "meeting design requirements" to the 2.0 era of "creating value through quality," establishing itself as a global leader in the wind turbine gear transmission sector.
