NGC Makes Its Mark at the 2026 Offshore Wind Conference

Published: 2026-06-18

From June 16 to 18, the 11th Offshore Wind Conference (2026) was held in Shanghai. The event brought together a host of industry leaders for in-depth discussions on offshore wind turbine reliability enhancement, wind resource technology innovation, and O&M optimization. NGC was invited to attend, exchanging insights with industry peers new paths toward high-quality offshore wind development.

During the first session of the dedicated forum entitled "Offshore Wind Turbine Reliability Enhancement — Reliability Assurance from Design to Manufacturing," Zhang Bo, Product Design Manager at NGC's R&D Center, delivered a keynote presentation on "Technology Development and Reliability Enhancement of Offshore Wind Energy Gearboxes." He presented the company’s comprehensive portfolio of full-process reliability design solutions, noting that as offshore wind pushes further into deep waters, drivetrain reliability has become the defining challenge. NGC embeds reliability into its products from the very first design stroke: its fully integrated 20+MW drivetrain gearbox platform, which combines multi-planetary load equalization with journal bearing technology, achieves a torque density over 270 Nm/kg. Its offshore 16 MW pre-integrated doubly-fed gearbox, backed by outstanding technical advantages and strong market prospects, also continues to drive innovation across wind turbine drivetrain technology pathways.

In the field of journal bearings, NGC has now completed two generations of technical development, covering the full power range from 2 MW to 20+MW. Backed by a decade of accumulated technological expertise, its journal bearing gearboxes have moved from prototype validation to volume delivery, with total shipments surpassing 10,000 units. Empowered by advanced coating technologies, the products deliver continuously improved friction and wear resistance, effectively handling extreme operating conditions and forming a full technology-product matrix. Real-world performance across diverse wind farm environments, both domestically and internationally, has demonstrated the stable, reliable operation of journal bearing gearboxes, thanks to a compelling combination of technical excellence and cost-effectiveness. In particular, the second-generation journal bearing technology is actively supporting the offshore wind energy industry's ongoing shift toward lighter weight, better cost competitiveness, and greater reliability.

Looking ahead to the new phase of deep-water offshore wind development, NGC will continue to deepen its R&D and innovation in offshore wind energy drivetrain technologies, refining cutting-edge solutions to empower upgrades in global offshore wind energy quality with even more reliable drivetrain products, fully contributing to the worldwide low-carbon energy transition.
