On May 19, the Second Session of the National Standard Compilation Workgroup on the Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes was convened in Nanjing. As an institution competent in revising national standards as well as a global leading provider of wind power transmission solutions, NGC Gears sponsored this session. Eight relevant industrial institutions attended the session, including National Technical Committee for Standardization of Wind Machinery, Shenyang University of Technology, CN Gpower Gearbox Co., Ltd, and Zhejiang Windey Co., Ltd.

Second Session of National Standard Compilation Workgroup on Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes

In recent years, with the rapid development of wind power in China, China has become a major force of wind power generation in the world in terms of installed capacities, development speed, and manufacturing capacities of main gearboxes for wind turbines. However, China’s Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes continues to be the 2008 version, which fails to fall in parallel with China’s current development of wind power generation. In addition, its contents are comparatively simpler than current international standards for the wind power industry. To ensure that domestic wind power generation develops in a healthy and orderly fashion, and that domestic products cater to the international markets in a better manner, there is an urgent need to introduce national standards that are equivalent to current international standards.

As a leading enterprise in wind turbine gearboxes industry in the Chinese market, NGC Gears is obligated to undertake this grand assignment by amassing and organizing its technical backbone to complete the revision of the standards. Following a year-long effort of revision, the Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes (Workgroup Discussion) is presented.

Mr. He Aimin, Deputy General Manager of Technology R&D of Wind Power Generation Division, NGC Gears, Delivers a Speech (first from left)

At the beginning of the Second Session of the National Standard Compilation Workgroup on Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes, Mr. He Aimin (Deputy General Manager of Technology R&D of Wind Power Generation Division, NGC Gears) expressed his gratitude and reported the revision progress to the attendees partaking in the revision of the national standards. Currently, the workgroup discussion on the revision of such standards is complete, but requires some improvement to produce the draft for comments. As he pointed out, the revision of the Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes would not only benefit the internationalization of China’s manufacturing of wind turbine gearboxes but also reintroduce to the world a new interpretation of “Made in China”. The revision of these standards will definitely enhance the competitive strength and influence of China’s wind turbine manufacturers and gearbox OEMs in international markets.

Mr. Wang Jianping, Secretary General of National Technical Committee for Standardization of Wind Machinery, Delivers a Speech (second from left)

Mr. Wang Jianping, Secretary General of National Technical Committee for Standardization of Wind Machinery, spoke highly of NGC Gears for accomplishing the multitude of work on the revision of the standards. Meanwhile, he raised two expectations. First, it is expected that the wrap up of the draft for comments regarding these standards can be completed as soon as possible and be presented for deliberation at the annual meeting of National Technical Committee for Standardization of Wind Machinery in September this year. Second, it is expected that Chinese experts in the near future shall partake in the compilation and revision of relevant international standards, which shall enhance the influence of “Made in China”.

According to Mr. Yao Xingjia, a professor of Shenyang Industrial University, double-fed wind generators will continue to be the mainstream force in the wind power industry in the future. The revision of wind power generation standards plays a significant role in China’s wind power industry, and the revision of the main gearbox standards is a top priority for the revision of industrial standards of wind power generation.

Technical Discussion of Workgroup Experts

During the two-day meeting, the workgroup experts expressed their respective opinions on the Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes (Workgroup Discussion), discussed different opinions and existing problems, and reached unanimous agreement. As a result, the Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes (Draft for Comments) is completed.

For our next move, NGC Gears will extensively seek opinions from other enterprises in the industry by using this draft as the blueprint, and gradually prepare the draft for review and the draft for approval. Finally, it will be submitted to the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Wind Machinery for approval and announcement. Completion of the national standards, namely the Wind Turbine Generator System: Technical Requirements of Gearboxes, will contribute to the development of China’s wind power generation industry.
